The Club has a ground handling training wing – a Seed by BGD. This wing is NOT designed for flying, but is very useful for learning the right gestures for good ground handling.
Available to borrow by arrangement, for no charge. Please contact the chief coach, Dave Harvey, on 07799 197345.
If the wing is listed as “on backorder” – that means it is currently out on loan. But don’t let that put you off – we can request the current borrower return it.
Suggested ground handling activities
- See if you can keep the wing inflated while running zig zag between some markers laid on the ground
- Try stepping up onto a stool or park bench
- See if you can pull a big ear, or a frontal collapse, and then recover control of the wing.
- See if you can touch a wingtip to the ground, and then re-inflate. Too easy? Then try touching a wingtip then 50% off the wing to the ground, and then re-inflate.
- Try bringing the trailing edge of the wing down towards the ground, holding it at 45 degrees, and then re-inflating. Can you go lower than 45 degrees? You may need to pull on the As.
