Parachute Repack 2014

A massive thank you to James Roy for organising the clubs repack day and to Bill Morris and his team for the excellent guidance. It is always nice to go into the spring thermal season knowing that your parachute will work if it is needed!

Photo and Video Competition!

This year the Skysurfing Club has decided to run a photo and video competition to showcase the talents of our members. There will be prizes for the winners, decided on the night at the prize giving. The winning photo will be displayed in our new trophy cabinet for all to see at the Queen Elizabeth Country Park! The winning video will take pride of place on the Skysurfing Club website. The rules are as follows:

  • Photos must be related to hang gliding or paragliding.
  • Photos must have been taken by you.
  • You may enter up to 5 photos into the competition. The winner will be decided by a vote at the prize giving.
  • Photos should be emailed to me at

  • Videos must also be paragliding or hang gliding related.
  • Videos should be uploaded to the clubs Vimeo group. Vimeo is free to join, if you have any problems email me on
  • A shortlist of the best videos (as decided by the committee) will be shown at the prize giving and a winner decided by vote.
  • This year there is no length limit but please don’t make it too long, nobody wants to watch 45 minutes of ridge soaring from a helmet cam!

Closing date for entries is 14th February, for judging at the prize giving the next day.

Places are open to members and non members on a first come first served basis.

Site Restrictions – IMPORTANT

Please be advised of some site restrictions.
Firstly, Whitewool is off-limits on Monday 26th August. (No flying permitted on Bank Holidays.)
Secondly, Mercury _may_ still be unavailable due to electrical works on the power lines. (The works have overrun.) Exact details are uncertain at this time, so be prepared to be turned away if you do decide to make the trip.
Be advised that our third (remaining) easterly site – Chalton Down – IS still accessible at this time. Please read the Site Guide carefully for details of this rather tricky site.

MERCURY CLOSED – 06/08/13 TO 16/08/13

Folks, just had a call from the farmer at Mercury. Two things of importance:
1). He has asked us not to fly Mercury for a week or so due to concerns about our safety. It appears there are major works underway to replace all the power lines, (above and below ground) in the area. This also means there is significant works traffic onsite. We have therefore been asked to keep away until the works are complete, (should be end of next week).
2). The crops in the fields below are close to being harvested. Until the fields are cut, absolutely NO bottom landings are permitted. (Any flattened areas will not now recover.) So, even when flying does resume after the electrical works – do not launch unless you can guarantee to land back on top.
Any problems or queries, please get in touch with me or any other SSC Committee member.
Thanks for your co-operation.

Sites Officer
Further to this, George is a finalist in the RSPB’s Nature of Farming awards and it would be nice if we could help him win by voting for him on the RSPB web site (anything we can do for him is small to what he does for us). Go to
